Episode 14 - NPT

Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty or NPT ( don’t ask me why they dont call it NNPT) is in the spotlight with Bush’s upcoming visit to India. He’s coming over to discuss some Indo-US nucleur deal for civilian use. So we just thought about giving you some gyan about what the hell NPT is about and why is this such a big deal.

Episode Notes:

  • NPT for dummies
  • Good articles to catch up on India’s Tango with US about the nuke deal
  • The IAEA is UN’s nuclear watch dog, well more like a puppy coz US chose to ignore their findings before going into Iraq. Here’s an article that tells us more
  • It’s “constructive” says Musharraf

Here’s your Indicast - Episode 13

We are back after a long time and sincere apologies for the delay. We have discussed the reasons in the podcast so I wont bother typing it here. Now about the episode,we decided to talk about Rang De Basanti (needless to say that its a “must watch”) and discuss a few facts that were mentioned in the movie (don’t worry we haven’t given out the plot) but just picked on a particular thing that a character says. The discussiong lead us to talk about IAS and how to get into it and importantly discuss facts about it.

Episode Notes:

  • What were we upto for all these days?
  • Rang De Basanti is a must watch.
  • Thinking about IAS? Here is some info to get you started
  • Govt of India has a good website dedicated for IAS information
  • India Today’s latest issue contains the salary figures for IAS, check it out if you get a chance and then think about why they are corrupt. We are not justifying their corruption but know the facts. Here are a few salary facts for you :

1. Junior Officers: Rs. 8,000-13,500
2. Senior Officers: Rs. 10,650-15,200
3. Junior Administrative Grade: Rs. 12,750-16,500
4. Selection Grade: Rs. 15,100–18,300
5. Additional Secretary: Rs. 22,400-24,500

Secretary/Cabinet Secretary: Rs. 26,000/30,000 (The above scales only provide an idea of the pay scales. Different branches of the service have different scales of pay.)

In addition to the salary civil servants receive various allowances such as Dearness Allowance, City compensatory Allowance, Leave Travel Allowance, Medical and subsidised housing.
