Episode # 26 Dejavu: Mumbai Bleeds … again
Hope. It’s a funny word, isn’t it? it’s valium for some and marinjuna for others. It’s dope. It’s contagious. It spreads. It’s an inspiration. Mumbai is on it… because it doesn’t have a choice… because it can’t afford a nervous breakdown.
Mumbai is hurt. It is seething. We hope it is not immune. We hope some day we all will start asking questions. We hope that we, mumbaikars stop taking ourselves for granted and not just “Move on”.
Episode Notes:
- hit.
- Peace? Come again?
- Orkut knew it before it all happened, says Hindustan Times
- Numbaikars: We, like the author are not quite sure about the
“Spirit of Mumbai” - … But, Mumbai stays united.

Hello again,
Just finished listening to the podcast and I was wondering if rehearsing a bit wouldn’t be that bad an idea. Especially in the fag end, “don’t romance it”?? I am sure you wanted to say “don’t romanticize it”. That apart it kept up with my expectations. On the topic, I lost hope long ago. In our crowded cities its not difficult to create a crude bomb and cause extensive damage to life and property. No amount of policing and intelligence can stop agencies determined to cause harm. Prejudices go too deep to be eliminated by a few handshakes and photo ops. In my opinion, its not going to take anything less than an alien invasion to make man realize the absurdity of killing another innocent one.

Vishal: Oops! The next time i’ll make sure I have the Wren and Martin with me!
Times of India recently has come out with a series press ads/announcements which exhort (Thanks to the GRE wordlist
) the Mumbaikars to wake up!!! And the Tagline reads, ‘Enough is Enough’.
You said it right. No amount of intelligence can stop a criminal to plant a bomb in crowded workplaces. And that is dangerous! But, I think at some level, technology can help us detect such anamolies in the train compartments! If we do not have one yet, it is time that we nvest in researching and learn from the western countries.
On a different note, we tried to rehearse a bit during our first episode and we threw that idea out of the window, coz it sounded more like a Group Discussion and very formal! I understand that we can get better in the usage of our language! Thanks for letting us know that.
Btw I liked your parting quote.

Good one, guys.
Aditya,
I agree that people should try not to get carried away with their emotions in difficult times but I am not in favour of the government stopping us from writing what we want! I would not like India to be a nanny state. If any Indian’s writing which the government perceives to be dangerous to the nation’s security or social harmony, then the government can try getting the person convicted in courts. While listening to the episode as soon as you argued in favour of the government, I remembered your brother’s interview on VoA. I agree, there is no way he is going to agree with you.
Regards,

Dont rehearse, it will sound made up. improv is where its at.
but on the mumbai blasts, being a mumbaikar (bombaykar?), i feel terrible and i remembered 93 and the riots that followed. hope that does not happen again.
dont forget about this topic in the next episodes, if you do, you will not be better than the media folk out there.

Nice to listen to you guys. There are a lot of things that we can do to prevent such bombings. The most important thing (as you said) is that we don’t stnd firmly on our decision.WE just make an idle threat. Look at the other examples. When there was 9/11 or 7/7, these countries stood firmly against terrorism. I really don’t like our PM’s attitude on this matter.I really expected more from him, When you have difinite proof against Pakistan then why you don’t take action against them? Why you seek help or sympathy from others?India is definitely strong power at international level and can make her decision on its own. Stop all the relation with pakistan and be firm on your decision.
Look at the reactions of politicians on this sensitive and prime issue. Even as the SIMI appeard on the Mumbai police’s list of suspect, one of the CM of state gave the organisation a clean chit. See how sensible our politicians are!We have to give all the freedom necessory to the police and keep faith on them.

I agree with all you guys… its high time to take a stand and just “condemning” blasts isn’t enough. We want the people who plan/think/execute such things to be hanged without a trial.
I am all for stopping cricket, trade, and any sort of interactions with a nation that helps people in killing our citizens.
Also, we dont like to rehearse what we are going to say… we have our points in front of us but not a script and never will. So you may have to bear a few mistakes or “searching for words” from time to time.

hey you guys. I dont really have anything deeply intellectual to say about the mumbai blasts other than the fact that its apalling and terrible, etc. but awesome show, as always. i’m still a bit bummed out about the indicast t shirt though
, maybe you’ll hold another competition in future so i can actually get hold of one!
and also - no rehearsals, please! you’re not recording something for the BBC, after all.
