Episode # 31: Gandhigiri Zindabad (?)

Gandhi. Poora naam, ‘Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi’. Munnabhai, the cult Indian movie has injected a dose of Gandhigiri in India. A nation of billion people is bombarded with news from all media vehicles on how Gandhigiri rocks in today’s world of deception. Gandhi had moved a nation to action through his out of the box style of protests against the British non-violence and integrity being his weapons of choice. Munnabhai relives Gandhian philosophy in the 21st Century. We at Indicast try to brainstorm a few scenerios where Gandhigiri would work and where it would not be a good idea!

Indian Hockey stoops to new levels and the coach Bhaskaran reasons why. Aditya, a true sportsman is more than livid and lets us know about why our National Sport is beyond recovery. He is still hopeful though. Listen to know more!

Lastly, A big THANK YOU to all our listeners who made us look good in one of Mumbai’s leading publications, ‘Mid-Day’. Keep those comments coming in.

We would like to congratulate our friend, Kay Stoner for her book, ‘Bring Me the Head of Opal Mehta’ which has been published and if she is listening, we hope to get one free copy so that we can review it on Indicast! :)

Two desis in a Pod

I get a call from a friend at 7.30 AM on a sunday morning, and instead of a good morning, I hear him say “Salla kya kya kida karta hain tu, you have become a page 18 celebrity!!!”

“Two Desis in a Pod” - that’s the latest term coined for us. That was the headline of a story Mid-day carried on podcasting. For those who dont know, Mid-Day is one of Mumbai’s oldest tabloid newspapers.

We had done this interview a week back but didnt want to spill the beans coz the publish date wasn’t finalized by then. But abhishek and I were pleasantly surprised when the headline itself was based on Indicast.

We have received a lot of pictoral as well as editorial coverage in the article by the grace of Roshni Baja, the pretty reporter (believe me, it’s an understatement) from Mid-Day. Also, A big thumbs up to Mid-day’s lensman.

Episode # 30: Ganapati Bappa Moriya!

Ganapati Bappa Moriya! That’s the mantra in India for the week. There is no festival which is celebrated with more pomp and vigour than the Ganesh Chaturti. People from all age groups participate in programmes to exhibit their talent on millions of different stages across the country. India is immune to blaring loudspeakers at 12:30 in the night during these 10 days!

Bal Thakrey is in the news again. Hang on. Don’t have any pre conceived notions. This time, he is in the NEWS for the right reasons. The authorities at Shirdi may not have the last laugh after all! Listen to know more.

Well, on a lighter note, we discuss a very interesting article that Fortune carries in its current issue. It says one in five will interrupt sex to take a phone call!!!

And finally, Aditya tells us his experience of hosting Ganpati at his place and his plans for the visarjan

Episode Notes:

  • Lord Ganeshaya namaha!
  • “Gimme Gold”, bark the authorities at Shirdi
  • “On my dead body!”, roars Thakrey. The authorities at Shirdi balk! Nobody messes with the tiger!
  • Do you hang up your cell phone or hang on to it whilst having sex?
  • Indian Housewives can get entrepreneurial! Ofcourse, we are kidding!

Yours Internetally,
Abhishek
